Hair loss does not always appear as a result of androgen activity and genetic predisposition (known as androgenetic alopecia, or Male and Female Pattern Baldness). There are other forms of hair loss which can come on gradually or very suddenly and can change a person’s life forever. The causes may still be genetic and may still be hormone (androgen) related; however, there are other influencing factors like the immune system, auto-immune conditions and numerous other more elusive factors. These conditions most often present themselves as sudden patchy hair loss and sometimes a total loss of head or body hair. While all hair loss is technically called “alopecia”, this term is more commonly seen in relation to the patchy or universal loss of hair.

Intuos4 Wacom Tablet Review

March 7th, 2012

A friend loaned me their Wacom Intuos4 Extra Large tablet so I could play with this Wacom tablet and offer my tablet review. So far, I’m extremely pleased with it. Compared to older models, this pen tablet is more ergonomic and sleeker.

Wacom has improved the stylus too. It now boasts a more pressure sensitive stylus for improved brush size, line weight, and opacity adjustments based on the amount of pressure you apply. So far, this has proven to be the case. It has been especially great when it comes to painting. I typically like  to sketch and ink my designs by hand and then transfer them to my desktop, but with this stylus I did that way less often because I can recreate pen strokes easily and they have the hand drawn look that I like.

Similar to the Wacom Bamboo line of tablets, the Intuos4 tablet has four ExpressKeys for creating shortcuts and a Speed Ring for zooming, scrolling, brush size and canvas rotation. I love shortcuts so I really like these features. It saves me some time and I don’t have to rely on using the cursor repetitive tasks.

There is also a new weighted pen stand/holder which is also a storage compartment for pen nibs. This is great for me since they are small and could would most likely get lost on my unorganized desk.

A wireless mouse is included. It’s a five button mouse and moves smoothly across the tablet as well as the desk. It’s an adequate mouse to use if you need one. Personally, I find the mouse to be unnecessary since I prefer to use my own.

Wacom Intuos4 does is available in four different sizes to meet your needs. Small, Medium, Large, Extra-Large and Wireless. The bonus for the wireless model is that it’s, well, wire free. I think it is worth buying if you prefer it’s size and don’t mind paying a little more.

The software included isn’t amazing, but if you are a professional, you probably own Photoshop and Corel Painter already.
A negative is the Wireless Intuos4 is only available in the one size which is a shame. Especially since that size is rather small compared to the others.

To Sum Up:
I really like the Intuos4. I appreciate that it comes in a variety of sizes. I recently bought the Wacom Bamboo Pen because it meets my needs for now and fits my budget, but I’m looking forward to upgrading to a Wacom Intuos4 Extra Large. Many New Types of Pump Driven Espresso Makers

March 7th, 2012

Since the starting of time for the espresso maker there have been many changes. The espresso maker  started out as a steam vessel with a number of valves that when opened and closed let steam pressure drive the water through the coffee grounds. This machine was very simple in nature but was missing the ability to really control the quantity of pressure. It then developed into a lever/manual type machine where the water was forced through the coffee by making use of force from a lever which moved a piston and pressurized the water. Although the pressure issue was much improved over the steam machine it still relied on the operator exerting the force and this was often inconsistent.

The advent of the piston driven lever type machine only opened the door for more technological innovation and hence the pump operated machine arrives. This machine was introduced in 1961 by Faema and is the model E61.

The major difference when it was first introduced was that the pressure of the water through the coffee was provided by an electrical pump instead of a lever. As years have passed there have been innovations and improvements leading to three new classes of pump driven machines. These are the semi-automatic, fully automatic and super automatic espresso makers

The most distinct differences between these three categories are:

The semi automatic must be started and stopped manually and does not have as much programmability as the others. Grinding and tamping are done externally.

The fully automatic can be programmed to start and stop the process and has a much broader range of program options including drink programming. Grinding and tamping are done externally in this machine as well.

The super automatic espresso maker will basically do it all. It measures, grinds, tamps and brews the espresso and will create many of your favorite drinks with the push of a button or touch of a screen. There are even machines that will read finger prints and program the users drink selection accordingly.  These machines are also mostly self cleaning.

The pump operated machines are now the consumers favorite with many choices of very high quality manufactures such as Gaggia, La Pavoni, Rancilio, Pasquini and Saeco

As you can see from the original steam machine first patented in 1884 to the super automatic espresso coffee makers of today there has been a true evolution.
